World of Freight integrates Chainlink Keepers and VRF
to help power its Supply-Chain Game

Wof nfts

On 10th June 2022, we integrated Chainlink Keepers and Chainlink VRF into World of Freight to help automatically payout race rewards and help randomly generate unpredictable events that impact players' vehicles when they're racing. By doing so, we could automate previously managed processes and help ensure that users have a fair chance of winning races. This has helped save our engineering team valuable time and increased the transparency of our game among our community.

The continued growth of World of Freight through Chainlink Service Support

World of Freight is a P2E supply-chain themed racing game on Polygon mainnet. The World of Freight ecosystem has 10,000 unique and randomly generated vehicle NFTs, which can participate in races and win WOF tokens.

Generating unpredictable race events with Chainlink VRF

When players are racing in our game, random events can impact their vehicles' race stats and their chance of winning the race. These events are generated using Chainlink VRF to help ensure they're both unpredictable and provably fair. Chainlink VRF increases the transparency of our game as any player can verify that in-game events were generated randomly.

Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node's pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The World of Freight smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This helps provide users with automated and publicly verifiable proof directly on-chain that each vehicle stat generated using Chainlink VRF for randomness is provably fair and cannot be tampered with or predicted by the oracle, outside entities, or the World of Freight team.

Automating race payouts with Chainlink Keepers

World of Freight uses Chainlink Keepers in order to help automatically payout the rewards to winners of our free races. For the past few months, we have manually paid out the racing wins, which has been a time-consuming process and has not always been executed on a consistent basis. With the help of Chainlink Keepers, we can delegate this task to the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, which in turn increases the decentralization of our platform. Ultimately this also helps reduce gas fees for players and increases the reliability of our game.

Chainlink Keepers provide developers with several key benefits:

  • High Uptime — Chainlink Keepers are run by the same professional DevOps teams that have an established on-chain performance history of providing high reliability to Chainlink Price Feeds during extreme network congestion and market volatility.
  • Low Costs — Chainlink Keepers have several gas-optimizing features that lower the costs of automating maintenance tasks for users, including a rotating node selection process to prevent gas price auction wars and stabilize costs.
  • Decentralized Execution — Chainlink leverages a decentralized and transparent pool of Keepers to help provide strong guarantees around secure contract automation, saving teams time and mitigating the risks around manual interventions or centralized servers.
  • Expandable Computation — Chainlink Keepers perform off-chain computations and generate calldata verifiable by smart contracts, allowing developers to build advanced, trust-minimized dApps at lower costs.

“Chainlink trust-minimized services help us provide a reliable and fairer gaming experience for our users. Chainlink Keepers helps securely automate race payouts and Chainlink VRF helps generate unpredictable in-game events.”– Artur Kärblane, CTO and Founder of World of Freight

About Chainlink

Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.

About World of Freight

World of Freight began as a collection of 10,000 unique and randomly generated non-fungible tokens (NFTs) created in September 2021, priced at 0.08 ETH. Our initial plan was to bring together a group of Freight Frens who'd be interested in supporting us in building a new supply chain protocol — Supplain. However, the more we developed the World of Freight collection and its utilities, the more we wanted to take the ecosystem further. We added the Garage, the Junkyard, the Racing Arena, the WOF Utility Token and much more into our development plans. To mint a WOF NFT, you can click here.
